Earlier this year, Keuka College’s Office of Alumni and Family Relations began investigating the possibility of creating a Celebration Weekend in October that would include Family Weekend, a homecoming component, and Reunion. Obviously, this would mean moving Reunion from June to October. Because our alumni are so involved in the heritage of traditions at Keuka, before making any decision, the College sought the opinion of alumni via an online survey. Nearly 370 alumni, from the 1930s to the Class of 2013, took part in the survey.
By a 2-to-1 margin, alumni endorsed the idea to move Reunion from June to October. After reviewing the survey results, the Alumni Association Executive Council and the College’s Board of Trustees endorsed the move as well. Therefore, we are happy to announce the creation of Celebration Weekend, to be held Oct. 17-19, 2014, and to include Reunion 2014, Family Weekend, and many more activities and events.
Although there was overwhelming support to move Reunion, there were some concerns we want to address. They are as follows:
Since classes are in session, residence halls will be unavailable to guests. However, there are sufficient accommodations available in Penn Yan and the surrounding area. The Office of Alumni and Family Relations has compiled a list of hotels, motels, B&Bs, and rental properties that are available. Blocks of rooms will be booked for our guests where managers have agreed to reserve. The College will also offer shuttle service to and from local accommodations for our guests’ convenience.
Keuka will assign specific College parking areas to those participating in the weekend events. Shuttles will be available for visitors.
All alumni are invited to attend this weekend, however, classes celebrating milestone Reunion years will be able to continue to schedule class-specific activities. We hope alumni will also enjoy attending some of the special events that will be new to this weekend.
Every effort will be made to keep the cost of this weekend affordable for all participants.
Thank you for taking the time to share your opinions and concerns with Keuka College. We invite you to see your ideas brought to life during the newly created Celebration Weekend. It will be a great opportunity to celebrate what makes Keuka special. We are certain that this will be a memorable and enjoyable weekend for the entire Keuka College community.
In the Keuka spirit,
Jeremy Hourihan ’08
