Keuka College has always celebrated students who exemplify leadership, integrity, and social responsibility — values that guide the institution’s academic and community life. To recognize such students, the College offers the prestigious George H. Ball Community Achievement Award, which is granted to junior high school students who demonstrate a commitment to leadership, service, and positive change within their communities and personal lives.
Keuka College junior Isabella Davis, a Unified Early Childhood/Special Education major with a concentration in Family and Childhood, said receiving this award was not just an honor, it was a defining moment in her journey — one that shaped her academic path and fueled her passion for making a difference. Originally from Rome, New York, Isabella attended Rome Free Academy before choosing to call Keuka College home.
A Proud Moment of Recognition
Isabella said she was excited and grateful upon learning she had been selected for the award, which is named after Keuka College's founder.
"I felt so honored," she said, adding that the award aligned with her personal values.
"It made me feel so accomplished," Isabella said. "I realized that others had the trust in me to uphold these standards of leadership, service, and commitment to making a difference."
The recognition reaffirmed Isabella’s efforts to create positive change in her community and inspired her to continue working toward her goals.
A Deciding Factor in Choosing Keuka College
The Ball Award wasn’t just recognition of Isabella’s achievements, it also played a role in her decision to attend Keuka College.
"Keuka College was already my top choice," Isabella explained. "However, once I received this award, it added another reason to choose Keuka College."
Isabella said receiving the award was a signal that Keuka College saw something special in her.

"I knew that they believed I could do great things during my time here, and I wanted to show the College and the rest of the world that I really could be a leader and make a difference in the world."
A Confidence Boost and Continued Motivation
The George H. Ball Community Achievement Award has provided Isabella with not only a sense of pride but also the confidence to continue pursuing her goals of being a leader and making a difference in her community.
"Being a recipient of this award means a lot to me," she said. "It gave me confidence to continue doing what I’ve been doing, and it truly has made a noticeable difference already."
The award has also motivated Isabella to embrace her mission of "being the change you want to see in the world." Whether she is working as an aspiring teacher or leading in her community, Isabella is driven to create a lasting impact. The recognition has inspired her to give her best every single day, knowing that her actions matter and can make a difference.
Leading by Example on Campus
Isabella has brought that same energy and commitment to campus life. As a Student Ambassador, she has played a key role in the Office of Admissions — giving tours to prospective families and students, supporting admissions events, and helping future Keuka College students feel welcome and at home. Her work as an ambassador has allowed her to lead by example and serve as a trusted voice for students navigating their own college journeys.
In addition to being a dedicated leader, Isabella was recently invited to join Sigma Lambda Sigma (SLS), Keuka College’s honor society that recognizes students who embody the three pillars of academics, leadership, and service. This invitation reflects her commitment to being a leader both in and out of the classroom — through her coursework, her involvement on campus, and the positive example she sets for others.
Isabella’s Advice to Future Award Applicants
Isabella has two words of advice for any junior high school students considering applying for the George H. Ball Community Achievement Award: Do it!
"It’s one of the best decisions that I have made, and it will open you up to a lot of amazing opportunities," she said. "There is a sense of pride that comes along with this award, so don’t hesitate to apply. You wouldn’t regret it!"
Receiving this award was more than just a pat on the back for Isabella—it was a catalyst for growth and a reminder that leadership and service are ongoing commitments.
A Lasting Legacy of Leadership and Service
Isabella’s experience with the George H. Ball Community Achievement Award is a powerful example of how early recognition can inspire future leaders. The award has not only celebrated her past accomplishments but has also motivated her to keep pushing for positive change. It has affirmed her belief that her actions matter, and it has fueled her passion to keep making a difference at Keuka College and beyond.
